About me:

Brought up in rural North Devon and from as early as four years of age I have always had a passion for the natural world and in particular ornithology. From some early books on British birds my interest was really sparked when my Godfather gave me his second hand Collins Field Guide to European Birds when I was six years old. Its blue hardback cover may have been falling apart but I could not take my eyes off the coloured plates of those exotic species! This intense interest has remained with me all my life and certainly not diminished over time. I have an interest in all things avian worldwide but my region (The Western Palearctic) does particularly hold my attention.

My working life has been as an equine Veterinary Surgeon having qualified from Liverpool in 1984 and retiring from a busy equine practice in the Cotswolds in 2017. I am still living in Gloucestershire with my wife. We have two daughters both now independent with their own families.

My attempts at photography started with digiscoping and over the last ten years has progressed to some serious camera equipment. At present my standard equipment is a Sony A1 with their 600mm f4 prime or, at times, the Sony 200 - 600mm (f5.6 - 6.3) zoom. These lenses are often used with a 1.4TC.

Purpose of website:

This website is an ongoing work and as of May 2025 contains well over 30,000 images. New images are being added at regular intervals so do please log in from time to time. All species on this website have occurred within the Western Palearctic and the vast majority of these  images taken over the last twenty years have been from within this region. There are now approximately eight hundred and fifty species on this site. My travels have led me to some superb locations and in doing so met so many other people passionate abut wildlife and conservation. For myself this website will be a good way to keep an organised catalogue of my better images and over time I would like to think it will become a useful source of reference. Any desired images will be able to be purchased as digital downloads.
